Mall Series

Mall Series
From spring of 1984 up to late summer of 1986, using a large format camera mounted on a tripod, I exclusively documented the daily habitation in the Worcester Galleria. Located in the center of the city of Worcester, it came into existence in 1971. For its time, considered to be one of the finest of malls in New England. By the time I was concluding this project in 1986, this facility was alarmingly in decline. By 2006 it closed and eventually demolished to make way for medical center.

Winter of 1986/87, the Worcester Art Museum exhibited this body of work. Well over 3,000 photographs were made, edited down to 57 for the show. Without much fanfare to follow, the work was stored for decades. In recent years is it receiving renewed interest.
